We have once again underlined our reputation for all-round excellence, combining academic excellence with sporting brilliance, after sealing places in two championship finals at the 2026 FUBA Primary Schools League.

This remarkable achievement reflects the consistent progress we continue to make as a school community in nurturing well-rounded pupils who excel both inside and outside the classroom. It further highlights a steadily growing culture built on discipline, talent development, teamwork, and strong academic commitment across our schools.

The achievement was confirmed following a competitive day of semi-final action hosted at Hill Preparatory School on Saturday, 27th June 2026, where our young athletes displayed remarkable skill, teamwork, and composure against some of the strongest primary school basketball teams in the country. Their performances once again highlighted our school’s growing footprint in youth basketball and sports development at large.

Beyond the court, our success continues to be anchored in a strong academic foundation, where pupils are encouraged to balance sporting ambition with classroom excellence. Our teachers and coaches alike consistently emphasize discipline and time management as key drivers of the pupils’ sustained performance in both academics and co-curricular activities.

In the Under-13 Girls category, the Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools girls’ basketball team produced a spirited and disciplined display to overcome Beautiful Beginning School 27–22 in a tightly contested semi-final. The girls, under the guidance of our technical team headed by Coach Peace Nakirijja, assisted by assistant coach and Women National Basketball League player Shakirah Nanvubya, showed maturity beyond their years, combining strong defensive organisation with calm decision-making in crucial moments to secure a place in the final.

The Under-13 Boys team followed with an equally commanding performance, overpowering Beautiful Beginning School 42–17 in a dominant semi-final display. Under the guidance of Coach Mark Ngobi and the entire technical team, the team executed their game plan with remarkable discipline, intensity, and cohesion from the opening whistle to the final buzzer.

Their fast breaks were swift and well-coordinated, their defensive pressure remained relentless, and their teamwork on both ends of the court consistently broke down the opposition’s structure. This all-round superiority ensured a confident and well-deserved passage to the championship final, further highlighting the team’s growth, confidence, and tactical maturity throughout the competition.

While the Under-11 team fell 32–20 to the same opponents, their journey to the semi-finals remains a significant achievement. The young side showed courage, resilience, and emerging tactical understanding throughout the competition, holding their own against more experienced opposition.

Their performances reflected steady growth, strong teamwork, and valuable lessons gained from high-level competition. This encouraging display points to a bright future for the team, both academically and athletically, as they continue to develop confidence, discipline, and their overall game.

Importantly, our Talent Development Programme, alongside other key competitions such as the Kampala Junior League in which our pupils actively participate, continue to play a central role in shaping well-rounded learners. These platforms focus not only on sporting excellence but also on nurturing leadership, character development, and academic discipline, ensuring that pupils grow into responsible, confident, and capable individuals.

Our staff, both teaching and non-teaching, have also been instrumental in maintaining academic standards alongside sporting commitments, offering structured academic support even during peak competition periods. This dual support system has enabled pupils to thrive without compromising their classroom performance.

Attention now shifts to the finals, where both the Under-13 Girls and Under-13 Boys teams will compete for national glory, while the Under-11 side prepares for a determined third-place playoff. The decisive matches will take place on Saturday, 11th July 2026, at Elite High School, a venue expected to host an exciting conclusion to the tournament.

Finals and third place playoffs

As the school community looks ahead to the final day, pride runs deep across both the academic and Talent Development Programme departments. The performances so far reflect a growing legacy of excellence, discipline, and unity that continues to define Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools.

Regardless of the final results, the 2026 campaign has already reinforced a powerful message: true success lies in balancing academic achievement with sporting excellence, a standard that Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools continues to uphold with distinction.
